Week 35
ELA:Students have been working hard in their last writing piece in kindergarten, they have been applying different strategies learnt to write more and extent sentences.
Math: We have been talking about American money since last term, this week we started to add different kinds of coins, it was challenging at first but with some practice students were able to it by themselves.
Science: Students were planning how to make a spider web using straws and clay. They started to apply all engineering process steps, they asked questions, imagined and planned their ideas.
Social Studies:This week we were talking about which country we live in and which is our city. They also were able to locate all seven continents in a map.

ELA: During this week students were working on comprehension questions after reading books. Also, they have started to read independently using inside voices.
Math: This week students were working on reviewing 2D and 3D shapes. We built shapes using marshmallows and tooth sticks. They of course, had the chance to eat one.
Science: Students were working on building the tallest structure using only popsicle sticks and clothe pins. They applied the engineering process steps: asking questions, imagining the project, planning the process, creating, trying, and improve it.
Social Studies: We continue learning where in the world we are located. This week we talked about continents. Kids know that we live in Asia.
ELA: During this week students were working on comprehension questions after reading books. Also, they have started to read independently using inside voices.

Math: After reviewing concepts related with fractions, students were able to divide a cracker in equal parts. They have understood the concept of half and how to use it.
Science: During this week students faced their first engineering process challenge. They were able to build a bridge that could stand and hold 3 books. They were so proud of themselves.
Social Studies: We were learning our place in the world. We review concepts like map and globe and we focused on our planet. Students start working on a flap book called Me on the Map.

Social Studies: Learning about urban, suburban and rural community has let students k know not only about communities but also about how living in those community can affect people's life style.

Science: Students were checking their observations and also learning about severe weather. They were impressed to know how much damage can tornadoes cause.
Social Studies: We have been comparing different types of communities and identifying different elements that each community has. Students enjoyed so much our Community Field Trip.

Math: Students were reviewing how to make a bar graph, they remembered all the elements needed and they started to ask simple questions about it.
Science: After reviewing what is atmosphere and hydrosphere, students started to know more about the difference between weather and climate. They also identify words that they already know and that are related with our new topic.
Social Studies: We were learning about land and water on earth. Different kind of water bodies such as lake, ocean and river are part of the new vocabulary studied.
ELA:During this week, students were brainstorming different ideas about how to make their school a better place. After listing about 7 and 10 ideas, they chose one to start developing their persuasive writing.

Math: Students have been practicing their counting skills, this week we practiced counting by 5s. Students worked on different activities to reinforce their understanding.
Science: Students started learning about weather for this term. They were introduced to two new words: atmosphere and hydrosphere.
Social Studies: After some weeks working on their timelines, students finished and presented them successfully. It was nice knowing a bit more of each other.
ELA: During this week, students finished and presented their final piece of writing. They were so excited and proud of themselves for being able to finish their work with quality in mind.

Math: This week, students were told how people used to measure objects long time ago. They were surprised to know that they can use their bodies as a measuring tool. They also had so much fun drawing their own foot, cutting it and using it to measure things around he classroom.
Science: After finishing their structure designs, students got to choose the materials they would need and started to build their models to protect an ice cube from the sun. It is really nice to see them exciting for building and creating new things.
SS: Students had a hard time trying to add more events to their timeline. However, once someone shared a new idea, they started brainstorming and collaborating all together to add more details to their projects.

Science: After learning about energy, we moved to talk about different materials that can be found on earth. They used their senses to identify different materials such as water, sand, rocks and soil.
Social Studies: Students have started adding pictures and simple sentences to their timeline book.
Students have so much fun meeting Mr. Sobol, reading with high schoolers, reading in different languages and swapping books during Book Week!

Math: Students were formally introduced to addition. They practiced their addition skills with board games, number stories and activities in their math books. They also reviewed patterns and counting skills.
Science:During this week, students were learning different concepts about energy and types of energy.They started to understand what is energy and where the energy comes from.
Social Studies: After learning about workers and different jobs last term, students began to learn about needs and wants.

Math: We have been practicing different counting skills like forward, backwards, and by 2s. This week students were practicing how to count by 10s from 10 to 100. They used their fingers, popsicles sticks, counters and dots to make group of tens and start counting big numbers.
Science: Students keep working on adding everything that their animal need to survive in its habitat. They have been adding pictures and different materials to make their dioramas the best they can.
Social Studies: Students are doing a great job writing their Class book about jobs in our school community.

Science: After checking out how our plants are growing, students were planning their diorama. They drew a rough draft and they stated what materials they will use to build it.
Social Studies: Students kept working on their class book about school community helpers. They have been working hard on choosing someone and writing what they said during their interview.

Math:Students were introduced to new vocabulary related with probability, such as certain, impossible, might happen, likely, unlikely.
Science: After planting plants, students have been monitoring them to see how they grow. Also, we have been comparing plant needs and people needs.
Social Studies: After some interviews, students started to work on building our classroom book which includes information about different school helpers from CDS.

Science: Within living and non-living things, we learned about plants, what they need to grow and how the can be kept. Students plant their own plant. They are all looking forward to seeing their plant to grow.
Social Studies: School Community is our topic for this term. Kids were interviewing some helpers in our school inquiring about their job and how they help our school.

Social Studies: Students were getting ready to learn more about jobs around our school. They were brainstorming ideas to know more about their jobs also they came up with many questions that will help to know what people around us better.

Social Studies: Students are learning about our school community, what jobs we can find and why they are important.
Kids had so much fun during our Field trip. I feel so proud of all of them for showing enthusiasm all the times.

Week 9
ELA:Students were working on sight words this week, they now are able to spell, read, and write most of the sight words seen in class. They also have been working on retelling stories with pictures.
Math: Student had so much fun building their shapes tower. They even tried to make a tall tower with less shapes.
Science: After testing their race track and marble maze, students started working on a small plan to make the projects better. They finished their plans, worked on their projects and present them to their classmates.
Social Studies: This week, we were reviewing some basic concepts about right and responsibilities Students worked on building a collaborative poster, they drew, colored and paste pictures and words.
This week Kindergarteners had so much fun at our Annual Sweet Potatoes Harvest. They had the opportunity to see where sweet potatoes come from and how our workers pick them up. They also learned that soil is like sand but is not dirt.
ELA:Students were working on sight words this week, they now are able to spell, read, and write most of the sight words seen in class. They also have been working on retelling stories with pictures.
Math: Student had so much fun building their shapes tower. They even tried to make a tall tower with less shapes.
Science: After testing their race track and marble maze, students started working on a small plan to make the projects better. They finished their plans, worked on their projects and present them to their classmates.
Social Studies: This week, we were reviewing some basic concepts about right and responsibilities Students worked on building a collaborative poster, they drew, colored and paste pictures and words.

First two days of school
First two days of the school were awesome. Students met new friends, started to learn new routines and reviewed some old concepts. Everybody got to the school super excited to start a new year.

Math:Students were practicing addition and subtraction skills with function machines. This was a new concept to them but most of the kids got quickly.
Science: After showing some improvements to their first challenge, students faced a new one. They had to create a water barrier. The main objective was to create a design that could stop the water. They had fantastic ideas on their plans.

In Math class, kids started working on number stories, they were using pictures and numbers to show addition problems.
In SS class, Kids were reviewing how to be a good citizen and they made a poster about it.
On Friday, we had our Joga-fest which was so fun. Kids were so excited to work with another friends from different grades and parents did a fantastic job supporting them. What a great day we had.
